Skyview School is a K-8 Expeditionary Learning School that serves a student population of roughly 130. Skyview School can improve upon several issues to enhance the learning and teaching environment. Skyview would also like to expand its student body to 220. Currently the school lacks space and storage, a teacher workspace, and a common area for the school to meet. They suffer from erosion issues that lead to flooding and mud on the playground. There is also a desire to improve the outdoor space.
The purpose of this design plan is to help Skyview build four new classrooms, while improving their existing building and site. Essentially, the design plan aims to improve teaching and learning environments with an affordable design strategy that is sensitive to environmental concerns. To be cost effective and environmentally friendly many elements of the design serve multiple purposes. The goals and issues are addressed in three sections, which become integrated into a master plan for the whole site. The sections provide plans for the new building, renovation of the existing building, and improvements for the outdoor area.
