Core - Stage Concept
The stage and adjacent amphitheater are designed to accommodate customers of the McCormick and Gurley Street businesses as they come together to eat and refresh themselves in the cool and shaded riparian area. The amphitheater can act as a collection basin and dispersion
mechanism for rain water, with its french drain-like floor and regularly placed permeable stone stairs. Other purposes for the stage could include performances, community meals, art demonstrations, yoga classes, Farmers' Markets, local artist bazaars and other events.
Curtains made from weatherproof material could extend the stage's usability; they would allow for additional shading, for dividing the stage down the center for multiple use, for privacy for yoga classes, or for dramatic purposes during a performance. A rubber floor made of discarded tires could provide an eco-friendly and attractive surface with a bit of give. With stackable tables and chairs for easy storage, this space can hopefully be a central gathering place for the growing McCormick Arts District community.
