Core Arts District - Rear Facades (Phase 2)

Proposed changes to the back facades of the core district are based around the construction of a trellis system that connects the backs of the buildings and further visually separates public and private areas.
  • A series of connected trellises divided into smaller paneled walls that can be folded up and opened to invite the public in for art demonstrations, restaurant seating, or a special event such as a gallery hop or art sale. Trellises expand the usable space around each building.
  • A coat of new paint from a unified pallate give a fresh look to the district while keeping with its colorful beginnings.
  • Installation of a rainwater catchment system--gutters channel roof runoff to cisterns where it is stored and used for watering of plants on and around the trellis structures.
  • Recently vacated Mad Linguist building could be transformed into a lively cafe so that visitors are drawn into the area and have a place to eat.
  • As the green space further develops, educational guides about creek-side plants, the local watershed, and rainwater catchment can be added to the existing signs. The construction of the stage allows for a gathering place and events venue (not shown--see site plan and stage concept)
