Core Arts District - Rear Facades (Phase 1)

Proposed changes for Phase 1 center around the need to more clearly delineate public spaces from private. Some current residents expresssed a frustration with the public entering into rear areas that were private, and conversly with customers not feeling comfortable approaching a gallery that looked to be the rear of someone's house. These changes are ones we feel residents may be able to implement themselves.
  • Uniform signs with a McCormick Arts District logo help guide visitors to galleries and restaurants (and away from private back-yard spaces). Signs could include a bulletin board for events postings, historical information and/or maps of the area.
  • Installation of bike racks and benches help to invite the public to shops and galleries (and further mark those areas as public).
  • Parking is moved from behind the houses to on-street diagonal parking. (see site plan).
  • The beginning of the greenspace--former parking lot transfomed into planted riparian area using principles of low-maintenance permaculture. Basins are dug and plants are planted.
